Political cartoon by Brian Adcock from Scotland published on 17 September in The Scotland on Sunday and The Prague Post in the Czech Republic.
In this cartoon critical of the Catholic Church and the Pope during his visit to the UK, the salesman claims that his Pope doll is the latest thing. If something is the latest thing, it is the newest and most recent trend or fashion.
What makes his doll unique is that it doesn’t apologise in 74 languages. If you apologise, you tell someone that you are sorry for doing something wrong or causing a problem. The American spelling replaces the ‘s’ with a ‘z’ to become apologize.
The cartoonist mocks the Catholic dogma of papal infallibility. To be infallible means to be incapable of making a mistake or an error.
