Are you yearning or earning for her?

William A. Clark (1839 - 1925), an American politician and entrepreneur is credited with this funny statement about men and the condition of marriage.

to yearn = to have a strong desire for something

"He yearned for her love."
"They yearned to return home."

Another verb for this is to long for something / to do something.

"He longed for her love."
"They longed to return home."

Of course if you remove the 'y' from yearn, you get the verb earn which means to receive something in exchange for your labor or work.

A common expression is to earn a living (gagner sa vie)
